i have sand substrate (very fine sand) and the bottom dwellers love it. i tested water last week and it was fine: ph 7. GH 8. KH 4-5. i'll test it again tomorrow (here in italy it's 1am :) ). nitrites=0, nitrates minimum.

today I bought home 2 oto's to keep the other 2 company. after I put them in the tank I noticed that one of them has 2 lumps or cysts a bit under the mouth. he's okay, eats and swims fine.

i have sand in a heavily planted tank and they are doing great. when i uprooted one to move it i found it's roots muche healthier than i have in gravel. the roots were much longer and covered in tiny hairs.

they look quite alike but i'm not sure it's an L226. The pictures in the catelog show fish with stripes on it's tale while the pic i posted shows dots on the tail.
