L255 "White Spot" Medusa (ranunculus)

Post by kkorotev »

Hello!
I just acquired a group of L255: "White Spot" Medusa, the spotted version of the Ancistrus ranunculus. Does anyone have experience with either of these two fish? They came from the "middle course" of the Rio Xingu as the Aqualog suggests. I currently have them in warm, slightly acidic water with bogwood and slate.
These fish are pretty amazingly shaped. The largest male's head is over 2 inches wide...with an overall body length under 5 inches. They are not a full inch "tall".

My friend Charley had good success breeding Ancistrus ranunculus. If you like I can PM his e-mail address to you.

I could use some help Id-ing the females do you think your friend charley could help me out ? Im planing on breeding them. Clearwater,
L34 were in the very next tank to the L255 I purchased. These fish appear identical but for the L255 being a little darker and loaded with white spots. Sexing was, mostly, easy...if you believe the Kathy Jinkings text from her book "Bristlenoses". The females simply have less bristles...and CAN be a little smaller. Good Luck with your Medusa.

Yes.
I'd take Paul's opinion to the bank.
