For what it's worth: still alive & kicking
Some 15 baby Hoplosternum punctatums (thanks to HH/Siluris for that neat piece of paperwork) are surviving; the fry tank has a nice green growing coat of all kinds of algae, like the sponge -thanks Coryman & Clothahump- and the dying stopped. The eating started as well!
Mind; these are F2! as their parents are bred by yours truly too, some 6 years ago.
As soon as I got the canon G2 in the house (is underway) I'll post them pics on here
Thanks for all the great tips
Sid

They're slow growers, but the last 2 weeks or so, no deaths have occured.
All the weird shaped ones (there were a few) have died, the others range now between 8 mm and 2 cm.
I feed them live hatched artemia, microworms, finely crumbled flake (a 4-menu mix including both red flakes, spirulina and others) and powderfood; this is one of those no-ad fry foods. They really like the baby brine and the powderfood best.
Pretty soon, they will be moved to a tank containing a fine sand substrate and other fry (baby cichlids -peaceful sandcichlids!; baby bristlenose).

Update on the Hoplosternum punctatum babies:
They're now in a metertank (100 liters) with baby cichlids (peaceful ones) and doing fine.
As I was able to count them, while transferring them from the 54 liter fry-tank:
there are 20 baby Hops and doing fine. Pics will follow soon.
