Common Pleco spikes

Hi,

Just recently, my Common Pleco's dorsal fin has split apart into spikes. Is this a sign of maturity? Or is it finrot?

Do you have a picture? It sounds like the fin is just torn, in which case it should heal back if your fish is healthy.
