L046 Tankmates suggestion

Post by sc00terx »

I have purchased a L046 and it should arrive within a week or two.

So i did some reading (mostly on this forum/site) and I adjusted my tank. I put some more smooth rocks in and put some driftwood in. Then i put a powerhead to make some current. I also placed a small clay pot in there for hiding. Took some plants out, etc. I want him/her to feel at home.

Now i currently have an otto, a cory cat, and a Blue Acara in there. The Acara is gonna be leaving for fear of him getting pissed at the Hypancistrus zebra.

What would be some good tank mates to put in there? tetras? barbs?

I'd like something small. I was thinking cherry barbs. I would like something that i can put in before the zebra gets here that won't attack once he is introduced. I would also like to do so to check for diseases before placing the L046 in.

My tank in a 20 gallon long
Aquaclear 150 running
100 watt heater
sand bottom

Also, has anyone tried one of thise "moon lights" with thier zebras? I know they feed at night and it might be cool to have a small moon light to watch them eat. It was expensive online, so i thought i'd check before purchasing one. Here is the link

Before getting any other fish, I would make sure that you get the zebra eating. I would keep the current low at first and put bloodworms right in front of him. Hopefully he will eat. Of course, if there are other fish in there, they may beat the zebra to the food.

Awesome.

So i'll just wait till after the zebra gets comfortable to add more fish. I just worry about the diseases. I am getting a 125, so maybe i'll put my oscar in there, and use the temp 30 gallon he is in to keep an eye on the future tankmates with the zebra.

I think it's best to keep Hypancistrus zebra alone in a 50 gallon. In a group of 4-5.The aquarium should look like the second one one this link:

Feed the zebrae's with meat like bullheart.
