Otocinclus mimulus

Post by Cory.Rivers »

Hello! I'm a biologist studying Cory catfish behavior, and I was just wondering if anyone here keeps or has kept Otocinclus mimulus with Corydoras diphyes. I have a few ideas about the possibility of behavioral mimicry and I wanted to see if anyone has observed these two species together.

Thank you!

I keep O. arnoldi with C. paleatus it could be said they are mimics, but behavior wise they both pretty much completely ignore the other.

Which I know they are not the species you asked about, but given the similarity I hope the extraneous data point can be at least a little helpful.

I wonder if they do or do not show any type of interactive social behavior or mimicry according to (1) how big their population is, (2) how big the other species' population is, and (3) the presence or absence of the predators of concern? Perhaps the mimicry only arises in the proper context. :-\

I would assume these are part of the research questions, Eric.
