Advice for Royal Pleco

Post by ClayT101 »

The other day a bought a new Royal. Its 4 inches long, very active and fat. I am keeping it in a 10 gallon quarintine tank until I am sure it is totally heathy. The other day I began to notice ick, so I increased the temp and added Melafix. The ick is pretty much gone, but I have yet to see it eat. In the past I have built fake trees using spinach leaves which they usually love, but this fish does not eat the leaves. He sits on the leaves but does not eat them. Today I bought some fresh green beans for it to eat. Any other suggestions on getting him to eat? BTW, I am keeping the tank covered with the lights off so that it will be less nervous.

WOOD! This fish's diet, like other Panaques, consists mainly of driftwood, which can be supllemented w/ zuchini, cucumber and spirulina. The also like lettuce, but will go through a leaf a minute, so it might not be a good idea to feed it. Which kind do you have? L27x or L191?

It has wood in the tank, if you check out my web page:

there is a picture of the pleco feeder that I use.
The Royal I have is an L27.
When I last checked on him, he was on the wood part of the tree. Hopefully he will soon start eating the leaves like the ones I had in the past.

Hi Clay, have you try using cucumber? I find that plecos really like to chew on it as compared to other veges...
