Just stopped by Finatics Tropical Fish in Richland, WA. What a wonderful selection of plecos and corys they had. The best fish I saw was a single (shown above). Alas, they had only one specimen but it was a beauty - jet black body covered with homogeneously sized pinpoint white spots. Probably a female. Gorgeous fish. I wish they had more than one. This came in as a contaminant with a group of 10 .

The "little frog" part apparently loosely translates into German and back to English as "tadpole pleco"
I think I need a bigger tank so I can get me some of these...

Never mind, that's just ancistrus ranunculus. The "aff". means it's likely related but not actually the same. Learn something new every day..

I have 4 of these at home, 2 males and 2 females. All spotted like yours. Hoping to breed them later this year.

You have four with the fine white spots? Dang, jac, that's terrific! Great luck breeding them!

Is yours L34 or L255?

Ancistrus ranunculus can be easily distinguished from Ancistrus sp. L255, their spots are very different. I have both species
