What Pleco should I get?
Howdy all,
Just starting out with trying my hand at breeding, and aquired some breeding fish.
I've gotten:
2x Peppermints
4x L134s
2x L201s
3x Albino Longfins
and pickup next week a colony of L066s
Now my missus wants a tank for her to try as well...
Anyone got any suggestions? We want something that wont cost a fortune to buy a few breeders (otherwise we'd really love to get some L046s). And something that doesnt look too similar to our existing breeders.
Also prefer to stay away from Wood eaters, and they will be kept in their own 4x2x2 tank.
She'll no doubt want 2 different types in there.. I was thinking the L129s might be alright.. any other suggestions?

Re: What Pleco should I get?
Hi,
I would rather separate the L 201 and the coming L 66 in the tanks and don't add more.
With the two Ancistrus this might also happen but is far more unlikely.
One problem might be availability of fish in Australia, as far as I know there are quite strict import regulations.
In the genus Hemiloricaria (might also be labeled as Rineloricaria) you will find many species that would fit. Most of them stay quite small, are very peaceful and mostly easy to breed.
Another option might be the genus Sturisomatichthys.
Cheers,
please don't keep different types of Hypancistrus in the same tank. They can and will crossbreed.AussieSam wrote: 27 Jan 2018, 12:03 2x L201s

so far the 201s and albino longfins are in a 4ft. the 134s and pepps are in another 4 ft, the 066s get their own 4ft, and my missus has her own 4ft to keep hers in

Re: What Pleco should I get?
Since you got L201 and L66, you covered pretty much of the most common patterns of hypancistrus.
L134 are among the most beautiful and easier to breed Peckoltias. Others are harder to come by and mostly not that commonly bred.
There are quite some more, pretty cool colored Ancistrus out there. They are more easy to breed but the good looking ones are not always easy to get. Like Ancistrus sp. Rio Tocantins or sp "wabenmuster"", sp "paraguay", or claro, etc...
Ancistomus L387 maybe?
Then there are Hemiancistrus (l128 and L200) They get bigger and are a tough nut if you want to breed them.
L168? need softer acidic water.

+1 on Rineloricaria (L10a).
