Cory Fry Changed Color

Post by Coryologist »

Greetings, All.

A few weeks back I had about 150 albino corys hatch. They are doing great. I distinctly remember knowing that they were albinos from the moment they hatched by their "goldish" hue. A few days ago I had another hatch of about 150 but these were absolutely, positutely - gray. Plain, old, ordinary gray. They stayed gray for about 4 days. Now they all look pinkish-gray and it appears I'm seeing "pink" eyes. I can see their belly's are stuffed with bbs. I'm very confused.

The question. Aren't albinos "gold/pink" from the moment of hatching - or are they gray? Am I going nuts, AGAIN???

I just spotted another hatching of about 50 fry and these are also gray. I'm going to keep a close eye on these and see if they change color.

I'm getting tired of having to move guppies out of my tanks because everytime I turn around there's another batch of cory eggs. Five tanks in the past week. I'll bet my last dollar that when I start to truly ATTEMPT to breed corys - I won't get a one! It must be those constant water changes.

When albino fry are small they can reflect the colour of the substrate as well as what ever they have eaten, I would not worry too much about them being a grey colour this will change as ther grow. What size are the biggest fry?

Cory Color

Hi Coryman,

All of my tanks are bare bottomed, and painted flat black. The fry that are now over a week old are about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch.
