South american bumblebee catfish

Post by Panquetalk »

I have a 36L 20H and 15W tank with the following inhabadents.

22 Red eye tetras

2 bolivain rams

1 L204 placo

Would 2 South american bumblebee cats do okay with these fish. I have a nice clay cave for them/driftwood/plants ect.

Which species are you looking at ? Quite a few species are called bumble bee cats some would fit great and some would eat your existing stock.

do you mean microglanis?

There are lots of varience in SA bumblebees - microglanis should be fine although they are seldom seen as they are quite light shy
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

I can think of a different ones that are regularly imported, microglanis would be a good fit like Richard said.

I think would be a good fit, but make sure you have a sand substrate.

I'd say just get 2. I have 2 in my 35 gallon tank and they're quite territorial towards eachother.

I have two SA Bumblebee cats in my 60 gallon tank and I only see them at night and feeding. I have many hiding places just to be sure they aren't stressed. Also sand is a must as they are sometimes spooked by other fish and go crazy, which in turn can severely damage their barbels.

I have 11 microglanis in my 75 g tank. They are not territorial at all. I often will spot 2-3 of them hiding in the same hole. I have several holey limestone rocks in there. They have plenty of holes to spread out in. But they prefer each others company. I also have 2 raninus in the tank. The raninus (jelly bumblebee cat) would be a poor choice, as would the giant bumblebee cat.both can get well over 7 inches and are highly predatory. Like everyone else has said, microglanis should be okay as long as you don't put any cardinals or such size fish in the tank. Make sure that the bumblebees your looking at aren't siamesis. They seem peaceful but I have heard horror stories. They are either beautiful angels or hyperdrive killer jaws. Having never kept any, I can't really say. Depends on who your talking to in regards to siamesis. I have seen them mislabeled as south American bumblebee, which is the only reason I even mentioned them. Good luck and keep us updated.
