Recommendations in Milwaukee

Post by PlecosAndLoaches »

I will be traveling to the Milwaukee, WS (US) area on business some time in the next month and wanted to see if the group had any recommendations on places to visit to get my catfish fix, if you know what I mean. Thanks for checking in!

I haven't lived in WI for 10+ years now, but when I was there Hoffer's Tropic Life was one of the best fish/reptile stores. Worth checking out.

Aquatics Unlimited is another good one to visit. Pricing is a bit high but the selection is better than Hoffer's. And Hoffer's is a pretty big and good store too!

Also downtown on 3rd street is BestFish which is a small but very good store. Their focus is mainly marine but they do carry a good range of freshwater catfish.

If Plecos are one of your favorites then I would contact Freshwater Exotics here on Planet Catfish. They have listings in the US - For sale part of the PC forum. They are in the Milwaukee area and have one of the neatest collections of Plecos for sale I have ever seen! Very cool. I am more into Corys myself, but it was impressive. You can visit them by appointment only so it's something you would want to plan for ahead of time.

I visited Jamie and Christine of Freshwater Exotics yesterday while in Milwaukee. Nice selection of plecs and had a great conversation with Jamie. It took a lot of discipline to only leave with two: a L75 and L264. Both have been on my wish list for years. I've never ordered fish online but having seen firsthand the care that Jamie took in packing up my fish for a 5 hr car ride back home, I trust him when he says he's rarely ever lost fish in transit. I'm going to be sending Christine the rest of my "wish list" so they can keep an eye out for me.
