L-numbers: Harnischwelse from Brazil and Peru Further aquaristisch new Harnischwelse arrived recently at the company Transfish (Planegg with Munich). With L 345 we have to do it with a representative of the kind Hypancistrus. From the body colouring and from the Habitus the animals remind strongly of L 236 from the Rio Iriri. Basic colour of the new Hypancistrus is a dirty light-grey, and the black, irregular line sample works something washes. On the basis morphologic characteristics the two kinds can be likewise kept apart. The eye socket diameter is larger with L 345. In addition arrangement and form of the bone plates exhibit differences between Supraoccipitale and the first Dorsalstrahl. Seidel placed a similarly colored Hypancistrus kind forwards (L 287), which from the Rio DO Pará originate should in Datz 12/2000, but arose later (personal report Seidel) that these fish came from a supply to the Rio Xingu. L 346 belonged into the collecting kind Hypostomus and originates likewise from the Rio DO Pará. With the flattened figure, that for Hypostomus unusually small and low dorsal fin and the small eyes reminds the kind rather of the representatives of the kind Chaetostoma. Also the unarmored belly and the small final size of 18 centimeters (overall length) are unusual. The extremely large suction muzzle suggests that we have to do it with a pure Aufwuchsfresser. In the aquarium the animals showed themselves to everything else as shy. They can be observed also during the day well. As?Acary pavão? (?Pfauen?Pfauen-Wels?, an allusion on the large Dorsale) received a aquaristisch unknown Glyptoperichthys kind from the Rio DO Pará to Transfish. With its color dress L 347 with the more attractive kinds G. cannot keep up gibbiceps or G. joselimaianus. Since the animals besides a length of at least 50 centimeters reach and to the swim-joyful Harnischwelsen belong, they are suitable only for Aquarianer, which can offer an accordingly large aquarium to them. With the locality San Jacinto (Tingo Maria, Peru) became L 348, free of doubts a member of the kind Chaetostoma, imprisoned. Most Chaetostoma kinds are Aufwuchsfresser, which inhabit fast flowing and cool mountain waters. Since usually only young animals are imported, some Aquarianer that it concerns with these fish remaining small Harnischwelse, believes but can become centimeters long some kinds up to 30. The animal illustrated here measures about 24 centimeters of total length. In addition, young animals were introduced from four to five centimeters of length, those in the color dress, up to the reddish sounded schwanzflosse, which adults resemble animals. We have a Ancistrus kind with L 349 before us. It originates likewise from the environment from Tingo Maria. The grundfaerbung is dark-brown, the head is scattered with snow-white Puenktchen. Also backs -, chest and pelvic fins carry white Tuepfel on the fin jets, so that a streifenmuster results. This Ancistrus is not thus noticeable due to its colouring, but he captivates with his skurrilen shape. Regarded from above L 349 reminds rather of a Dekeyseria kind. The body is extremely long, slim and flat, and the brustflossen reach put on up to the center of the pelvic fins. Together with Panaque frame (L 90) a ancistriner Harnischwels of a kind not described yet is imported. According to data of the Peruvian exporter both welse occur syntop. In the Habitus L 350 reminds earliest of Acanthicus or Pseudacanthicus histrix. The strongly extended tail fin filaments and the extremely small eyes are particularly aufaellig, as them possess also L 90. The fish prefer animal food and defame vegetable food. Over the final size nothing is well-known, but 40 centimeters long individuals were offered.

So my "L186a" can be called L350 now? but this food description just sounds like nonsense to me...with it choping wood and eating all kinds of veggies...? Confusing
