Hi Jody,

I am building a start-up Public Aquarium & Fish Rescue Center in Naples, FL, 600 mi 10h away from Destin. Man, Florida is huge! (http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... lit=+blues)

Anyhow, I wish you find the right home and sell your fish asap. I truly do. If you don't and will consider donation, I would consider driving to where you are - it will be $300 in gasoline alone for me.

Yeah, I know, real long (and perhaps cheap) shot on my part.

But good luck in any case!

Hey, Victor, you could get a car with better fuel economy. Even at the very inflated prices of fuel here in the UK, I could drive 1200 miles for under $300... ;)

Am I not green enough by your standards? :) Our Toyota Corolla (wife's car) drives 33 miles to a US gallon but cannot house four 15-20 gal coolers, not comfortably anyway. It is worth condisering though as, looking at the OP again, I now see the fish are still small vs. what I usually pick up in my scary rusty Dodge Grand Caravan + 12'x6' trailer. So yes, it may be doable for $150 in gas. But I do hope the OP will recoup some of his/her investment. I am in no position to pay for any fish anymore... unless, maybe, it is a long-sought-for bargain priced 10 times below the norm...

Economical was the term I'd use, rather than Ecological/Green. My car does about 50mpg (US gallon - my tank takes about 48liter = 10.5 imp. gal or 12.5 US gal and gets me a good 600 miles - but it costs around US$100 to fill up the tank here in the UK) with my lead-footed approach to driving. And I think 4x 15-20gal coolers would go fine in the back, as long as I don't have more than one passenger. I have had 2 x 4ft x 2ft x 16" aquariums in the back.

Here's a random link to a car like mine:

[But I don't think Peugeot has much of a presence in the US, and you'd certainly want a car with A/C in Florida]

How much would you sell your 125g tank for? Also, message me with prices for each fish if I was to come and pick them up. And any filters, heaters, anything available.

For driving in Europe and England, I'm sure it's more than sufficient for getting around. But, good luck getting onto a highway/freeway in the USA with that 1.4L engine that puts out under 100hp. Nothing like getting rear-ended by an SUV or a big rig when you don't have enough acceleration to successfully merge into the slow lane. I value my safety more than a few more MPG. That's why I drive an SUV. Also, I am 6'4" and fit more comfortably into a truck than a car.

Well, we do have SUV's around here too, and mine is the diesel version with a measly 70 bhp, but if you give it a bit of right foot (and get your gearchanges right), it will keep up quite well with traffic here - I was even keeping up with a Ferrari on Saturday (no, before you say anything, I'm sure the driver wasn't trying very hard, but we both pulled away from the other cars around us - top speed, I couldn't compete, of course, as mine will only do about 100 mph, and it starts getting a bit squirrely at over 90). Oh, and you are no more than an inch taller than me, as I'm 191cm or just over 6'3" (75.2").

I've driven about 8000 miles in the US, so I know a bit about the driving style there too.

Anyway, sorry for helping drag this thread OT. I wish the OP luck in finding new, good homes for his fish.

lucky you.....

over here that would mean almost 400$ to drive 1200 miles and I got a Citroen xantia, not a Landrover or something.

on the topic, Tigrinus cats are very nice; price is decent too, big ones usually cost an arm and a leg.

Jools is delightfully patient and good-natured. If it was stupid me, this gentleman/lady would already have 2 warnings.

On a separate but likely related note: I don't understand what's happening. He/she says they are in the military and are getting re-deployed/moved and have to sell such and such fish. And then fish keep coming and coming in ever increasing numbers. The tigrinus was 10", then 16", then 13". What's happening?

Jody, Kim, and Co, I know people interested in the Tigrinus cats so I will let them know your posting. However, the question is "Why are you not complying with/completely ignoring the personal requests of the forum owner?" It just plain looks bad. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... hp?t=36037

I think they never come back to their postings and focus only on servicing the email accounts they provide. That simple. But not responding to a PM is more sinister. Likely, they don't even know who Jools is. They provided an email address and that's all they care about.

Now, the compassion-invoking-sales-bringing military story can also be sinister when left without an explanation.

On a side note this annoys the crap out of me, I really am in the Navy, not the same one as this individual claims to be, which by the way is a federal offence in the US, to claim and not actually be a service member, and I have had to sell fish due to service reasons, and for someone to play on that for a sale is just plain wrong IMNSHO.
