Breeding cory cw 009

Post by javierhnb »

Hello, I'm Javier. I am new in this webside, and I don't speek English very well, so sorry for it. I have 6 cw 009 corys (2 female and 4 male)for a long period (one year) and they are healthy, and females are fat, but they don't breed. In my country, this is a very rare corydora. Few peolple have this wonderful cory, and there are no experts in this corydora.
Now they are placed in a 30 l tank, with akadama, and natural plants. There are no more fishes. I have done WC, and rise down the temperature whitout succesful. Anything else? What pH do you advise to me? 7-7,5?

Thank you very much

I think a pH of 7 should be fine. I've bred CW009 at that pH.

You also might try adding dry oak leaves to the tank. I've heard that can help, as can feeding live foods, if that is a possibility for you.

In my experience, CW009 often reproduce when they are moved to a different tank. I don't know how to explain this, but it has happened for me on several occasions. If you have another aquarium, I would try moving one female and two males to that aquarium for a week or so.

Thank you very much for your fast answer. I´ve already moved my corys to a new tank 3 days ago. I look for oak leaves, or something like that.
Thank you again

My Green Lasers have spawned twice for me this year with good yield. Leaving them alone in their tank (they should be the only fish in the tank!) with minimum disturbance was the key for me. Feed them for a week with live food (in my case I used california blackworms) and clean the walls of the aquarium once and be patient. I believe I didn't make a water change for nearly a month and then they laid eggs. Their tank had tap water with a pH ~7.5. Good luck !

Thank you, Korsaaven for your answer. Now they are alone in the tank for at least 15 days. Ph 7. I have fed them with frozen red bloodworm. I have made many water change, with cold water with no results. I see them very actives "cleaning" the walls. And the males persecute females. But they don´t breed.
Now, I'm going to try to don't disturb them, and I hope I'll get the goal... I'm very impatient.

Thank you for your advise. I´ll tell you my results.

I'm here again. The last time I were not able to breed this cory (cw009). I have spent 1 month again, now, and I have no results. I have a tank of 30 l, with oxygen and filter, and 6 corys (2 females), there are 2 trileneatus too. 24 ºC. pH 6,5
I read many data about this cory and I am a little bit confused:
- I have made many water changes, with cold water, almost every day. But I have read that it could be good to leave them in the tank, without stress without water changes. What do you believe?
- I have feed them with frozen dafnia and with spirulina, twice a day. But I have read that it could be good don't feed to much. What do you believe?
- Temperature? Hours of light? And everything you can advise me.
