My biggest L134 brood until now - video of 46 fry
Hi Forum
Until a few months ago I had a lot of troubles with my Peckoltia compta - L134 group. The eggs wouldn't hatch. I got more and more frustrated after 8-10 failed spawns. But finally they did it the right way - or maybe I did it the right way..
In a period I used only rain water in the aquarium and that was a success. The soft water would let the eggs hatch.
After that I had a few small spawns of 10-15 fry. But after a minor pause the fishes started again and one of my biggest/oldest females made a spawn in the males cave which resulted in 46 fry - a quiet huge spawn I think of L134?
- What is your experience about the size of the broods?
Here is a video of the fry - 1-2 days after hatching.

Hi Neo and Nick
Thank you for your comments.
I am also very satisfied with the picture of the 3½ cm L134
Does anyone else have any experiences they want to share about the sizes' of spawns from L134??

Can't be sure since I've always waited for the fry to show on the glass before collecting but over the years the usual size would be in the mid 30's. I had one batch that was well over 50. But then again it could have been a double spawn. I give my Frogs plenty of privacy
btw, nice video and pic

Re: My biggest L134 brood until now - video of 46 fry
The way of giving the fishes privacy has also helped for me. I had a lot of unsuccessful spawns even after I found out that the too high dH in the aquarium was one of the key parameters which prevented them to spawn.
I was used to take the fry out of the cave before they hatched - my experience told me that it was a good idea. But it wasn't with L134. And in the future I will let the eggs hatch by the male - it gives me better results.
