Corydoras olgae

Hi!

A friend of mine has received these Corydoras sp under that name.
It is a trade name for sure as not valid species has this name.
It comes from Colombia.
It is a long nose species. Similar looking to C. simulatus ( could be it) and there is oviously another species that has similar color pattern but have a blotch in the tail... they are so far 4cm long
Any idea what species are behind that trading name.

Hi!

Well after exchanging email about this one.
One of the species seems to be Corydoras simultus and the other one is C. cf simulatus!

Strange trading name for an already known species!

Hi!

Yeap that is a good way to get rid of a large schoal of fish that are not selling well!

Since shops and importators are all wishing to import the "NEW ZEBRA"... they will jump on anything...
The only problem is that after a while you have a hundred trading name for the same species, some name use for several species... adding to the confusion...

Is 4€ a good price for such fish? I have no idea as I have never seen them around!!!

Would it be something like this fish?

It's not exactly Corydoras simulatus as it seems more like a long nose version of the davidsansi. Check the extension of the marking to the caudal fins.

Yes similar to these, just that the "olgae" has a different caudal.

I've linked the image over for comparison.

Looking at the top 2 fish and their relfections, their tails does not really have any extension of the body markings. Really looks like Corydoras simulatus to me.

So perphaps olgae is simulatus? Trade name?

Corydoras under this trade name have now surfaced in Winnipeg. I have talked to the wholesaler and he said that the fish was wild caught near the town of olgae in Bolivia. As a previously undescribed species the importer simply gives them the name , in this case of the town nearest to where they were caught. I am going to the LFS tomorrow with my camera to take some pictures and will post them to this site and hopefully we can id. them. They may in fact be simulatus.

might be the same ones that i have asked about here, they was also labeled as C.olgae exept the 2 last pics that was labeled as C.woltroi as i found out later.

In Milwaukee, Corydoras OLGA (slightly different spelling)
surfaced as early as 1998. It was/is a simulatus cf or simulatus variant with no real appeal. Occasionally they'll come in with a yellow tinge which makes them only slightly more interesting. Often,, in a group of "Olga", there appear to be multiple species or this "species" is highly variant.

The story goes here that OLGA is the wholesaler's wife's name. No kidding.
