Found a couple little guys at a LFS, but didn't buy this guy since I wasn't sure what he was (don't need to be overwhelmed later on). I thought this might be a hybrid, of which I have some real mixed feelings over... but God he's pretty and if he is a little monster would fit right in eventually with all my big kitties in their pond/massive tank...

Wow! nice fish! Looks like it might be a big Pimelodidae, possibly out of the Leiarius group.

Looks similar to , but I'm not sure it is that one specifically. I suspect it is a hybrid of two large species.

I've seen many photos of these looking just like the one above but those were pictures looked at by a greenhorn amateur (me), so take my input with a big grain of salt. As for my marmoratus-TSN hybrid, I bought it at 5" looking differently already.

The biggest reason I haven't 100% gone with the Leiarius x TSN, is that all the others I have seen have the TSN white belly, which is missing on these two little guys. It's what I thought it was, but just am not 100% sure. I asked the LFS owner, but it came in with an invoice number only.

Not really much to add but it has the feel of a hybrid although i couldn't definitely say what the parents were. Leiarius x zungaro maybe

It looks like it will be a biggie but the pattern is most likely going to alter & be less pronounced when it reaches maturity

Indeed. This hybrid looks different from Leiarius x TSN hybrids I have seen before. That's a weird caudal fin shape for a pimelodid, too.

If it's not a hybrid, I would guess would be the closest match.

You know, I didn't think to ask if they knew where the shipment had come from. That would have been potentially helpful.

Part of me wants to go back and get him just to see what he turns out to be... Then there's the part of me that knows I've got my hands full already and fears that I have no idea what he would turn out to be...

I hate the idea of hybrids and have never seen one I actually like, but even I have to admit that the Pseudoplatystoma x Pseudodoras is attractive.
