Re: New here
Welcome to Planet Catfish.
Sorry to break it to you this early, but someone has to at some point:
may well be what it said on the tank when you bought it - or the name you found when you searched the web, but unless you captured it yourself in Surinam - there is virtually no commercial capture of fish for the aquatic trade in Surinam.
Most likely, your fish is , but it may be several other species too - but it is extremely unlikely that it is A. temminckii.

Re: New here
Does Ancistrus cf_cirrhosus have orange/reddish color on the tip it's tail & dorsal fins? Mine has it. Let me try to get a good clean shot then prolly ID'ing this guy is better.

in that case, there are two options:
which grows to 25 cm SL
and
which grows to 16 cm SL
both grow large for Ancistrus species. if you are not sure which one you have, only time will tell, you have to wait until the fish is fully grown. both species are incredibly nice by the way!!

edit: welcome to Planet Catfish btw!!

Greetings, Tim

Guys, I'll try to shoot a clearer pic for the aspi. Difficult to snap as it swims really fast.

Re: New here
Could it not be S. Prionotos - it too has a long body & is a fast mover - what is the reason for it being aspidoras? How big are they? They do look a great fish, any chance of "in-tank" photos?similiss wrote:It's an aspidoras. long body & lightning fast. my fav fish in my collection.Richard B wrote: perhaps?

Re: New here
The body markings looked more like Aspidoras spilotus. Will try to capture an 'in-tank' picture as this fish is pretty daring & active around my tank.

Re: New here
It could well be A.Spilotus - the fish in-bag will be stressed & not exhibit colours quite true - hence my query. They should show more patterning in the tail & a more blocked dark line along the lateral - however when settled this may be evident.similiss wrote:The body markings looked more like Aspidoras spilotus.
