Medicating Corys
Can I use salt in treating corys? My new arrivals is suffering internal bacteria infestation (due to tremendous amount of stress as the other mates in the same bag died before reaching home) with rapid fin rot up to the tail bone. Medication is responding slowly. Hope I can use salt to expedite this situation. Do let me know . Thanks

Re: Medicating Corys
My opinion is yes. I've treated corys of half a dozen species with salt without problem and consider them no more or less sensitive than other purely freshwater fish, BUT I can't guarantee that there's not any extra sensitive species out there, and I also of course can't guarantee that your fish wont die anyway, if they're as sick as you say.chochiss wrote:Can I use salt in treating corys?
But I, personally, would use salt if I were you.

I would not recommend salt for Corys. They don't appreciate it, even under normal circumstances.
Yes for most other fresh water fish, but cats are one of the exceptions.
Glad to hear they're doing well. What medication are you using?
Personally I like to use Melafix for fin rot. If not for initial treatment, it seems especially good at helping the little guys grow back their fins.
