Callichthys callichthys
Where has this species dissapeared from the markets??I haven`t seen it since 80`s in aquariumstore.Whatever happened?

Yes it is true, I have not seen any either on Stocklist or in shop for ages...
I guess it is probably due to so many new species imported, and this one not being pretty colourfull and rather being pretty big as well some way past out of mode!
Hope it will come back in the hooby pretty soon!!

At last someone speaking up for my big ol' calllichthyd favourite
I've had those in the late eigthies; they're great!
a bit disruptive on planting, because when fed with tubifex, they could "swim" right through the bottom! (I have fine sand, and live plants, get the picture?)
Unfortunately a virulent bacterial infection finished them off in 1990; it nearly cleared the whole tank...
I've bothered many LFS since then, but never saw them again.

Plan B should not automatically be twice as much explosives as Plan A

I have two so-called Green Porthole Catfish which seem to be either Callichthys callichthys or Hoplosternum littorale. I wonder if Callichthys has been reclassified as H. littorale. Some hoplos are now Megalechis but I don't know which.
