cichlid compatibility with syno cat?

Post by WOGGIES »

Hello,i have a 40g tall tank with 3 small synos (maybe 2-3 inches long) a small rainbow shark, and some neon tetra. I was thinking about adding a cichlid to the tank but I do not know if my tank is big enough for that kind of fish or if they are compatible with the fish I have now. If it is okay to add, what kind should i get? If not, what are your other suggestions for fish to add, thanks!

tiny and peaceful ones!

and set up a small cave on 1 end of the tank.
9 out of 10 times the cichlids will choose the cave (but you have to be sure) and this way the cats can rest without being molested.

There are a few species wich are extremely docile as cichlids go.

-Anomalochromis thomasi
-Nannacara anomala
-Pelvicachromis taeniatus
-Microgeophagus ramirezi
-Crenicichla regani (this is a tiny piscivore wich will tackle neon-sized fish)
-Apistogramma spp
-Dicrossus spp

All are bi-parental (pairbonding) and you should never combine them; best keep 1 pair in 1 tank.

There are also 2 tiny mouthbrooding cichlids; these should be kept haremstyle: 1 male, 2-4 females.
-Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor
-Pseudocrenilabrus philander

these can be a bit rowdy, but usually only to each other.

make sure there are hiding places for all fishes and to spare.
