From the FAQ,
Q: Why are there *'s in pleco and cichlid?
A: Years ago on the mailing list that was first used to discuss catfish over the internet, there developed a superstition that if you typed the word pleco without the *, your fish would die. It's carried on through today, where the forum is programmed to help you keep your plecos safe!
The *'s in Cichlids are simply there for humor. After all, it IS a Catfish forum!

Oh my gosh, thats soo cool you all live in cool places and I live in North America (Eastern US). Here we have brown bullhead catfish and I go out with boots and a net and now I have a school of babies!! The biggerones over 4in. fight so I keep them in separate large tanks.
I would like to know if anyone can identify the one catfish i caught. He was eel-like but his pelvic fin was separate. I found him in a river with swim bladder disease and he died shortly after I put him in a hospital tank.
P.S.:I'm new to the forum and thanks for your help.

I love plecos!
