Etymology question
I've noticed that in theCat-eLog, etymologies are sometimes given for both the generic and the specific epithets. So far, I've been only giving the species etymologies. Should the generic ones be given as well?

Yes, but you only need to give them once. If you are submitting three species of Ompok for example, then I only need the generic etymology in the first one. If it is already there then you don't need to bother. This is becuase this data item is stored at genus level in the database so applies to all species belonging to that genus.

In this case, probably email, although in general a correction can be sent just by filling out the required fields (put "CORRECTION" in the Notes on ID field) and sending another submission.Silurus wrote:So I've submitted a whole bunch of entries without generic etymologies. What's the best way to get them (for that matter, any other data that has been accidentally omitted) to you? Email?
