Not a Peppered Cory?

I got 2 of these recently to go in with my 5 Peppered Corys and in the clear light of day I realised they're not quite the same.

The fish's blotchy colour is quite black with a white skin and its not got the usual green sheen of Peppers and the nose on this fish looks longer than my Peppers.

It's a little smaller than my Peppers too. But then that could be just age. I've only had these fish a month.

Can someone pin it down for me?

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think the fish you have pictured is indeed a C. paleatus, but a deformed one and although it is small it is still all out of proportion. I would ask the question where you got it from? was it your lfs? if so I would complain, if it was from a local breeder they need to introduce some new blood into the line, although I think the strain is too far gone to recover.

it must be a but this one is totally deformed...they are tank raised specimen of a very bad strain...

C. paleatus must be having problems. I have a female that is too short as if it's missing a vertebrae or two.

A lot of these fish are fish farm bred and C. paleatus is one of those species that needs to have new blood introduced every couple of generations or the decline is rapid.
