long-term pandas?

Post by holiday_elsie »

has anyone kept panda cories for over a year?
have been hearing stories that even for experienced cory keepers, they often cannot keep them alive for more than four months. now we are scared!!

how about c. metae?

Corydoras panda are not difficult to keep or breed. C. panda does not like it too warm, 74-75 degrees is good. When C. panda were first available in the hobby I remember paying $25 each. The price soon dropped when everyone realized just how easy they are to breed. C. metae are hardy once the are acclimated and are happy at the same water temperature as the panda. C. metae are a little more difficult to breed.

thanks!

appreciate the info (and encouragement. we have continued to see so many reports on fish forums with people having dead pandas after four months or so with no warning...so is good to have the encouragement.

i know this is a beautiful catfish place, but to continue then with your temperature recommendation:

we were already moving slowly from our old 80 degrees to what we had thought should be about 77 degrees as we have some harlequin rasboras in the tank as well. if we are to lean on the side of caution, would you recommend getting down to 75 or 76 for the pandas (being very bottom end for the rasboras,) or more like 77 (being top end for pandas and bottom for rasbora hets?) we are thinking more like the 76 or 75 as all of the panda info has us so scared!

thanks again for your time!
