Hi there:

I've been reading information off of this site for several weeks and finally decided to become a member. I just got back into aquariums after a 5-year break from the hobby. Currently have a 55-gallon with a severum, four yo-yo loach, and an ornate pleco. Thinking of some other type of catfish to round out the tank, or possibly go with either a significantly larger tank, or a another 55-gallon (have one sitting idle).

Am interested in the Lima shovelnose cats, but it appears from reading this forum that a 55-gallon tank may be a bit small - also wonder if the smaller yo-yo's may end up as dinner.

Also had a question regarding "gulper" catfish. I've seen a couple for sale at the LFS, but can't find information on this site under that common name - any suggestions?

Several catfish go by that name. Look under Ageneiosus or Wallago.

Thanks for the quick reply - I think it was one of the Wallago species. The ones I saw had the elongated anal fin and the short dorsal fin and a yellowish body color. But would a fish that can grow to 40"-80" be commonly found in retail pet shops? Seems like another species that shouldn't be marketed to the general public because of its potentially large size.

What are your thoughts on mixing a Lima with yo-yo loach? Would they become yo-yo lunch?

I forgot to mention that also sometimes go by the name of "gulper catfish". Maybe that was what you saw (they have a light brown body while Wallago are generally silver or a darker brown).

I would not mix yoyo loaches and lima cats, just to be on the safe side.

I looked at the other Ompok species and the O.pabda looks closer to what I saw. Thanks again for the assistance.
