It wouldn't be the first time.

I remember many years ago in Sydney there was a group of young gents who did several raids on LFSs carrying rare fish. One of two of them would distract the shop keeper up the other end of the shop while others stole the fish. They apparently had bags of water hidden in their coat pockets and would then go staight out to a waiting car. One LFS I know of had an Arrowana and a Zebra plec stolen this way.

As this is a local "haunt" for me, I can tell that it wouldn't necessarily take much "distracting" of the staff, they seem very good at doing that to themselves... Which is good when you're going round watching and not really buying anything - not so good if you want to spot thiefs...

Sad, sad, sad. People around here steal dogs worth a lot of money. Usually, they don't even know what they have. Or, they think they know what they have and will make a quick buck. Too bad they can't put the tracking devices in them, like they do with dogs and cats. If someone sees two L46's REAL cheap, they know who they belong to. I just hope they don't perish before then...

I've heard plenty of reports of fishrooms being plundered down here. Probably hear about that more often then shops being stolen from...The theives seem to always target catfish, due to our import restrictions most Lnos etc are REALLY expensive.
You'd have to be pretty game to steal fish from a shop during trading hours under the noses of staff and other customers

Not very good at all.

Yep for sure mate

I was reading on another forum a bloke has given up fish keeping...he was selling off juvie frontosas from his fish room quite cheaply to get others in the hobby with out the prohibitive costs (ie being a top bloke) in one of the southern states and then had the room broken into not too long after he started and an entire colony of very $$$ fronnies gone.

Its sad but a reality....I now meet people at a pre determined place when selling fish unless they are people I have been involved with for a long period of time.

Me too. Its unfortunate, but what can you do? Rare/expensive cichlids and anything with an Lnumber is likely to be a target
