Hypancistrus sp. L199 or L270?

Post by CatBrat »

Hey all,
I just got this pair of Hypancistrus sp. shipped to my house today. As the title says what do you think they are, L199, L270 or something else? Im thinking L270 at the moment, but I have no idea, lol.

I'm hesitant to make the call, but they do seem to look like the L-270s I have as far as body shape goes. But don't take my word for it.

Hi!

Any idea of the origin of the import, but it would help, L199 would be shipped from Colombia and L270 from Brasil!

Cheers

I have no idea of where they came from unfortunatly. I can try and find out, but I don't like my chances.

Cheers, CatBrat.

I've owned both L199 and L270. I'd have to lean toward the L270 due to the body coloration (even though the fish looks like it is showing a bit of stress coloration). L199 has the more 'gold-ish' head with more 'white' on the body. Also, with the L199 the stripes tend to be more 'straight' or even and they have what I liked to call 'blue eye shadow' on the top of the eye.

This is my NO means scientific as you see by my descriptions. Just observations with the fish I've had.

It's always diffictult to identify fish when you don't know where exactly they came from for sure since SO many species look similar. If you get/got your fish from a local pet store, they can usually find out for you.
