blue-grey C. trilineatus?

Post by Bathos »

i have what i believe to be a juvenile C. trilineatus. the black markings are all there, though with the exception of the black stripe on the side, they are more spotty than squiggly. instead of being white on the rest of the body, it is blue-grey. is this normal? indicative of disease? just a juvinile thing?

C. trilineatus are quite variable depending on where they are from. There are collected from a wide ares and each population has differing markings ranging from very fine delecate lines and spots to bold intence black blotches and streaks.

so that accounts for the grey-blue too? i think it looks kinda cool. i have one blue-grey and one white. wonder what the kids will look like!

how big of an area are we talking here? is it a difference of 2 rivers separated by lots of land, or more like different portions of the same river? thanks for putting up with my curiosity.

We are talking about a fairly large area involving several rivers in the north and north west of Peru, southern Ecuador and east to the border with Brazil.

In time because of the wide distribution of these fish over several river systems it may eventually be proved that there is more than one species involved.

I have not as yet tried cross breeding the different colour morphs. Which would in its self be one heck of a project to under take, but could prove the compaterbility between them.
