I'm not sure how your database is set up but would it be feasible / possible to add a search by river, or habitat type to the cat e-log ?
eg search by 'Xingu' might return all fish in the catalogue known to be found in the Rio Xingu
'Fast Water' might return all fish known to prefer fast rivers.
'Leaf Litter' might return all fish likely to be found in a leaf litter style habitat.
Just an idea.
Cheers

To add to this, we'd need to go through all species and assign them to categories. Actually, first of all we'd need to decide what those categories are. Some others for consideration are countries of origin, river systems etc. Diet would also be a good one.
What we could do reasonably early is on do something with harder data like species that don't grow beyond a certain size, can be kept within a certain temperature ranges or pH values.
With all these things, we have to have the data for all entries in the database first, then figure out how to be able to present it.
