Spilt fins

Post by batho »

Help!

I have noticed a few fish with split fins in my community tank.
I have also noted this on a Ancistrus Bristlenose tail fin.
I have read that this can be caused by being stressed by other fish.
I do have a Ruby shark in the same tank who does seem to chase others around.

Any views?

Yeah, split fins are usually caused by altercations. What other fish do you have in the tank? The ruby shark may not be the culprit if you've got other territorial cats.

Do you have other Ancistrus in the tank?

I have two breeding pairs in the same 325L tank, and when they are going through pre-spawn, they always end up with split fins.
They have never developed any complications yet.

I was worried too, until i realised.
