Sorubimichthys Planiceps

Post by Sescil »

I just purchased a 2 inch juvenile. I was wondering if anyone can give me some additional information. I know they can grow up to 5 ft. Lucky for me I have a 300 gallon tank in the fish room. Thanks in advance.

they grow very fast to about 20" and will eat anything that they think will fit in thier mouth,, my 8" planiceps ate a 6" brachyplatystoma juruense,, so be careful with what you put in the tank with him. I grew a 2" planiceps to 16" in about 7 months,, it will eat blood worms when it is small, then move on to shrimp and when it crosses 16" you have to feed it fish fillet pieces or other meaty foods.

An adult will need an aquarium four times this volume, I'd take it back and look for something that won't get above 24". There's a good range of stunning Pims that fall into this category, best to leave the really big boys to those with unlimited space and funds or Public Aquaria.
