Holes in panda fry!

Post by kim m »

Today I was moving some Corydoras panda fry (12-20mm size) from one tank to another. I noticed something on the belly of one of the fish. When I looked closer it was kind of a hole on the underside og the fish between the breast-and pelvic fins. I examined all the fry, and about half of hem had a hole like this!

Any idea what the reason for this could be? Could it be something genetic? ...I don't think it has anything to do with waterconditions, because none og my sterbai ig pygmaeus fry has holes like these...

Hoping for answers on this one

Best regards, kim m

From looking through older discussions, I can see that pandas are more sensitive than othar cories, and that high nitrate levels can cause defornities...unfortunately I haven't got the equipment to measure these levels yet.

Other parameters:
Temp: 24 C., both in parent tank and fry tank.

Parent tank: 25 litres, sandy bottom with bog wood and java moss.

Fry tank:
The fry are hatched in a smaller tnak with a foam bubble filter, and when they are around 12 mm., they are transferred to a 169 litre tank with an outside caister filter. Water change in these two tanks are 50% every other day.
