New idea

Post by Fishy411 »

I think it would be really cool to have a list that goes by size in the Catfish log so people can see what would and would not fit in their tank.

also it would be cool to have a button that goes to the next entry especially for the plecos so that anyone who doesnt know what theres is can just go through it with a lot less clicking.

Ehm... I think there's about 400 "pleco's" in the list, so that's an awful lot of clicking even if there's a "next" button...

However, if you have SOME idea of what yours is, there's a button to "Show all species of XXXXX" when you view the picture of one specie (or when you look at the L-numbers).

Sure, if you haven't got a clue, that's mostly useless. That's when you post in the "ID" forum, and have someone recognise it. That usually works because someone will recognise (or at least give some idea of) what it is.

If you want to look at all "Plecos", you can select "By family" and then select "Loricariid" family. That will give you a list of all "pleco's".

You can't post pictures directly on this site, you have to post them on some other site and link to them here. Look at the sticky post on the top of "What's my catfish" forum.

Btw, the number of species in the Loricariid fish section is 466, so you'd have to click "next" a fair few times to find the right one...

If you do as I suggested, select cat-elog by family, you'll have a navigation table on the left side of the screen, whcih contains the scientific name of all the species in that family. You can then select a specie, have a quick look at the pictures. If it looks close enough, click on pictures to view them.

If it's not a match, go to the next one by clicking on the next specie in the navigation table. Works for me.

Obviously, if the genus doesn't look AT ALL like your fish, you can perhaps skip the whole lot to the next genus, and have a look at some of those.

If you have a relatively common variety, it's also most likely that the "green i" will give a hint of whether it's worth looking at the fish or not. It's not a guarantee, but most fish that are plentifull will be more likely to have information on them.

I hope this is helpfull.
