Cory in a Loricariidae breeding tank?

Post by Maarten »

I've got 4 Corydoras Haraldschutzi (~4cm) in my 130L tank where I'm plannen to breed a species of Loricariidae in (dunno which yet, max 10cm) Are the Corys a threat to the eggs or fry of the Loricariidae?

Maarten,

Although I do not know which Loricariidae you intend to spawn the Corys should not pose a threat to the eggs. That being said, if you have another tank, move the Corys when you see spawning activity.

The tank is running for about a week now and I'm looking for a small species, possible hypancistrus L046, L098, L173 or maybe L250.

I have another tank but that has it's own family of sterbais and its a big problem to catch the corys there because of the wood and I don't want to disturb the Geophagus Tapajos (they defend the eggs  ) to much because I'm trying to let them spawn too ;)

i have had cories in a tank with breeding bristlenose. They will eat any of the fry they can catch, which will be most of them!

Maarten,

I am sorry I did not fully read your post. Corys will eat the Loricariidae fry.

Cories are pretty good at catching anything that wriggles on the bottom and is small enough to swallow :?

When life gives you lemons ask for a bottle of tequila & salt.
The only danger I find in life is to take too many precautions, some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.
