Long Finned Plecos
Long Finned Plecos
I know these are just a version of dwarf plecos but I don't know which one. They only get around 6-8 inches max. I have 20 of them in a heavily planted aquarium and they are growing fast and look amazing. Also they have a vast colour variation amoung them. (no albinos)
Also what size do dwarf plecos start breeding at? I've read some where that someone's bristle nose was breeding at just under 3". I have a trio of albino's that are around the same size. Should I be getting them ready to spawn?

Bristlenose's will breed at around 2.5" (SL [1]) for the Common Bristlenose, but there are about 100 different species of Ancistrus (the "family" of bristlenoses), so without knowing which variation it is, it's hard to say. I believe the Albino's are the same as Cat-eLog entry for Ancistrus sp(3), so about 3" should be good to breed if they are "Common".
You'll need to make sure that you have at least one male and one female. The male needs a cave to hide in, and they need to be well-fed. Make sure that there isn't any fish in the tank that will eat the fry when they come out (they should come out at about 15mm long after 10-14 days from spawning).

[1] SL = Standard length. This is from the tip of the nose until where the tail-fin starts. This means that you can use the same measurement for "long fin" versions as for standard fin versions. Standard length is always used in the scientific community to identify species, my guess for this would be that it's easier to measure that and becasue a damaged tail isn't going to make the fish "unusable" in science.
