marbled shovelnose catfish

hi im interested in the marble shovelnose catfish, does anyone have any experince of them and the best way to keep them.
the tank that fish will go in is 8ftx2ftx3ft it is 3 ft wide due to the fact that it used to house a mystus wykii.
any advice would be great

its definitely a shovelnose cos of the body shape i think it is a hemisoribum, soribum or a pseudoplatystoma species

Hi,
Check the Cat-eLog on the species you mention. It should be there somewhere in Pimelodidae (family). The only marbled fish I can figure out of the 3 you mention is Hemisorubim. This is a species of which the lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw. I've had experience with 3 species, but will await your reply on the correct species.

could it be the tiger shovelnose X l.marmoratus hybrid that has come into the market last year ?

I truly hope not. Bad things these hybrids and surely no assets to our hobby. But then, like the coloured Corys and the longfin pl*cos, that's my opinion.
The Hemisorubim is a great fish to keep, it'll live long when it gets proper care and doesn't grow too large.
Thus it can be accompanied by relatively smaller fish. However, it can have a great appetite, so there must be plenty of food available. It's perfectly capable of living on frozen food and pallets, but it's more appropriate to feed live fish now and again. Make sure the feeders are "clean"; best to breed them yourself.
A gentle and elegant fish, which is not very fond of larger C****ds. In my view, a great fish to keep & study.
