Sorubim lima
Sorubim lima
hi! I have recently acquired a 55 gallon tank and really want to keep a sorubim lima. I have wanted to keep this fish for a long time and most of my research seems to suggest that this tank would be large enough for the fish. What are your opinions? do you think that this tank is to small? In the future I could possibly move the fish in to a larger tank. Also would it be better to keep 2 of these fish as i have heard that they do better when kept together?

A 55 gallon, with good filtration and frequent large volume water changes, should be fine for a trio of S. lima. I have seen many people recommend driftwood, but I have only caught S. lima amongst heavily vegetated areas along river banks. I would add some driftwood and several large Amazon swords. They slink amongst the heavy vegetation eating tetras and small cichlids.

Thanks for your reply and the useful info! much apriciated! the 55 is currently full of bogwood and a couple of amazon swords now! just going to buy some floating plants to block out the light a bit more and then i think it should be fine! I'm looking into buying a pair of juveniles now and then possibly moving them into a larger tank later on so i can reclaim the 55gal for more fish!
