Suggestions for some L-46

I am finally obtaining a group of 8 L-46, and hoping to get another group or 2, try to get these guys spawning and more prolific in the hobby. I am probably not the best person to attempt this, but I shall try.
I was wondering, I have heard many people claim to have success with varying temperatures, anywhere from an 80 degree F. to 90 degree F. for the constant, what would be the safest, best bet in your opinions? I was thinking 84-85, but want to hear of others experiences.
And secondly, I know of all the options for breeding caves for them, but for those of you out there who have bred them, what worked best for you?

Hi James

As far as temp goes, I would say you were pretty near the mark. I increase my temp up to arounf 85-86, after a large water change. Before the increase I tend to let the temp drop by switching the heater off for a while.

As for the caves, I've had alot of luck with rectangular slate caves the inside of the cave should be around 100mm long , 25mm high and 50mm wide. make sure the cave is blocked at the back, and set it up with a slight tilt to the back to prevent eggs rolling out when the male decides to have a wee shake!

i my self might try and breed them i have set up my zebra's in there own tank its 1 200L tank with 9 zebras in it i will be keeping a eye on this topic my other pleco's have used pipe from B&Q with a plug from B&Q again covered in gravle and stuck at a 45%in the tank i will let you know how i get on with them

Sounds good everyone...more advice is welcomed. Looks like I am spending my last bit of money to add on and get 12....better chances though. What's the smallest anyone has had them spawn at?

Maybe it was by luck but I got 3 spawns of them with the male staying in a hole in a piece of driftwood. Water quality was a pH of around 7, hardness of 30-40ppm, temperature around 83-85. Water changes were done with cooler water though of around 70 degrees of approx. 20% of the water volume. If the cooler water triggered this it is hard for me to say. I had the adults for a year they spawned once and then started spawning again at 2 1/2-3 years. The second time was between the months of May-June as these guys might be a seasonal spawner. Diet consisted of bloodworms, brineshrimp, sinking foods other then spirulina waffers.

what have you people set your tank's up like i have my one set up with caves made out of pipe covered in gravle and blocked up at one end with some bits of bog wood and some rocks as well
