Aeneus mimicing loaches

Post by jurassic_pork »

Strange post i know but here goes: I just got back home to find my female C.aeneus lying on her back in the gravel and not moving at all,Naturally i thought she had passed away,I opened the top of the tank and put my hand in to take her out when she flipped over and swam away :? I have never seen her do this before.
Could she be copying the clown loaches that are present in the tank ? I have an albino rainbow shark that mimics the loaches and even share's caves with them on a daily basis but never seen the corys do it.

Any help on this one please,I am hoping there is nothing wrong with the cory

TIA Mark

Hi!

I have seen this being done sometimes by some of my females but usually they will do that in front of the glass touching it with their belly or also by a furniture but still touching with the belly!!
Cheers

This posting may be of no help to you but, here's what I've experienced: Could she be getting ready to mate? I live and work in the same room as my tanks and I've seen some pretty wierd behaviors from my Aeneus and Paleatus cories. I've seen both species pass-out cold when breeding and topple over, change colors, almost like a small child's breath holding spell.

This morning, when I saw my Aeneus mating, their 4 week old fry were imitating the "kissing" behavior! It didn't go any further than that. These fry are also trying to shoal with the Pristellas in the tank... :? :?:

A real point of interest is this, I have 3 cory fry being raised in another tank. They are the same age as some other fry I have in my 29 gal.tank being raised with adult cories. The fry being raised with cories will eat frozen food. They suckle on cut up blood worms like a bottle. Adult cories do a sort of "pre-eating" of the worms to make it easier for the fry. (But I thought they weren't supposed to be "parental?") They also allow the fry to eat first, then take the seconds. Something they never did before! The 3 fry in the other tank don't know what to do with a cut up frozen blood worm. They love the smell. But, time and time again, they pass it by for a mash of freeze dried or flake food. I'm going to put them in the 29 gal.tank.

My 2 cents, cories are very good learners! I'm not well educated. These are just observations.
