Red Lesion on Pictus Catfish

Post by eyeluvzdatrout »

I've got two Pictus cats, young ones, in a 10 gallon hexagonal tank. I understand this is inadequate room for them and I plan on getting a larger (at least 35 gal) tank in the future. In the meantime, I've seen occasional tail nipping, and even one fish litterally gripping the other in his mouth at the rear base of the dorsil fin. Besides some infrequent fighting, they appear to be okay and even play and lie together at times. However, I've noticed recently that one fish appears to be injured. There's a nasty red lesion just above the anal fin and my first reaction is that it's from a nasty bite, but it's only on one side of the fish and I wouldn't think a bite could create a swelling lesion.

Any thoughts on this?

I may post pictures later.

Here's a pic, this is the best I could get since I'm inexperienced with my digital cam;

Looks like the kind of injury sustained from fighting to me.
