White fungus? on bogwood

Post by Corymad »

Hi

Anyone know why white fungus grows on bogwood? How to get rid of it? Large pieces of bogwood (about £50 worth)

Thanks for any replies

for many fungi to grow well, all they need is food (some types of bogwood will be more nutritious than others) warmth, oxygen and moisture. these are quite abundant in fish tanks. as long as the fungi is kept to a sensible level it won't cause any problems, although when it over-runs the tank it will breakdown and rapidly consume oxygen.

only way to get rid of it is to boil your bogwood and scrub it off by hand. it may take several treatments to get rid of it though.

sometimes it will just disappear on it's own. the fish may even feed on it.

don't think about fungicide chemicals unless you know exactly what you are doing, and only treat the wood outside the tank.
