Crossing Corydora aeneus with Bronchis splenden

Post by silvernes »

Bing the brillian woman that I am, I finnaly figured out today why my albino corydoras all don't look alike...

half of them are Bronchis Splenden.

Have Corydora aeneus and Bronchis splendens ever been sucessfully crossed?

I think this explains exactley why I have been having the most difficult time spawning my cory - ever time I do a water change & lower the temperature they exhibit brilliant displays of courting. Laying on top of each other, symoltanious water breaches, following each other around the tank, cleaning the sides... but all my male corydora aeneus are still juvenile (about 3 months old) so I'm supposing that would explain why I am yet to be blessed with little cory babies.

Also I have the opposite ration of too many females to males, can this cause a problem with mateing? Watching one juvenile male dart between 4 females this afternoon was quite entertaining & though he did have his favourite he never spent enough time with her, as soon as he'd start to tip her over another female would make a pass over him & distract him. Typical male ;). Would placing one male (that's all I got) and one of the females in a seperate tank help to focus their... energy?

Thanks for the help :)
Nes.

Hi Nes,
It is VERY unlikely that your albino aeneus crossed with the Brochis Splendens. My guess is that you have alibino aeneus...and albino paleatus in the tank. They do look similar, with the main difference being the dorsal fin. Post a few pics! I'm sure someone will be able to help you ID your cories.
