Question about Corydoras kanei

Post by philtre »

Hi all,

saw some specimens in the market recently that looks like C. kanei.

Was browsing through some online materials
- PCF (planetcatfish.com)
- Ian Fuller's webbie
- I Love Corydoras
- Scotcat.com

when I realise that some of the pictures of these kaneis have a clear face (at the nose, before the eye mask) but some of them have a spotted face.

Can anyone throw some light with regards to that? Or it's a negligible characteristics?

Appreciate any thoughts/ comments here.

Thanks!

Corydoras kanei

Post by The.Dark.One »

I described kanei in 1997. The original type specimens did not have spots on the snout. I agree that C46 is probably C. kanei, but I am not convinced that sp. "Rio Branco" (the one with the spotted snout) or (especially) C26 represent C. kanei.

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for your post. Sure does help a lot.

So the fellas here would seem like they are indeed kaneis?

Hi Steve,

Thanks a lot for the ID!

If those were kaneis, would these be sp. "Rio Branco"?
