Chocolate pleco

Post by muridae »

Okay, I'm aware that this picture is laughably bad, but my camera batteries keep dying and I can't get a better one tonight. I will buy batteries, then try for something better tomorrow. I suspect that this particular fish is rasping on one of my spotted raphaels and a positive ID would really help me to determine what to do with it, where to put it, etc.

This fish was listed at the LFS as a "chocolate pleco" but the pictures in the cat-e-log show much larger, more mature fish, and honestly I just can't tell the difference. Half the dark colored loricariids look the same to me. :?

Could it be a chocolate pleco?

It's an albino Liposarcus, probably L. pardalis. These are often sold as chocolate plecos.
