Snail-eating Brochis? In current?

Post by andregurov »

I have 5 B. splendens that I dropped into my 48x12x18 pleco tank - it was infested with hundreds of snails (what kind? I don't know). That was about a week ago. Now the snail infestation appears to have subsided or at least diminished quite a bit. Do they eat snails? Or is it sheer coincidence? - I'm pretty certain my Pseudacanthicus didn't get a fever for the flavor.

Also, the tank has its volume turned over about 12 times plus each hour by the pumps. I figured since the Brochis are so very active it probably wouldn't bother them that much. Is this correct? Or am I not-so-slowly going to wear them out with current?

Do they eat snails?
AFAIK, they don't. Your snails may have undergone a boom and bust cycle (i.e. reproduce too much, run out of enough food for all, weakest die).
