Weight distribution for heavy tanks..
Weight distribution for heavy tanks..
Hi everyone.
Just a quick question: I'm currently switching over my fish from a 180 liter to a 350 liter tank (about 90 gallons). That's the heaviest tank I've ever had, so I have a question regarding the weight:
The floor cupboard "construction set" that came with the tank has eight plastic feets that I could screw onto the bottom board. Since i don't know exactly how my floor is build (yet ) I'm thinking of not doing this to get a better distribution of the weight over the floor area.
To me this sounds a logical thing to do. I won't move the cupboard and the tank anyways.
Any good reason not to do this and install these feets instead?
Thanks,
Nils
(The tank is a Juwel Rio 350 btw).

if your floor is level then i think you could do that. as long as the tank doesn't twist. but i would set it up as the kit says just to be safe.
when you have a cringy video game name like me ->

Hardly any floor is level, I mean precisely level, not being a mm higher somewhere than elsewhere.
Therefore I would prefer using the crews on the feet, and thus install the feet. However, I think I would use a plank, of plywood, on the floor before placing the cupboard.
Than you have the adjusable feet AND a flattened weight distribution of the tank.

Is the floor wooden? Stone? What's under it? I would put the feet in if not wood for sure. Helps any water spills dry up - it might sink a little into the wood but then that is only balancing. So, I would use the feet. Post a picture of your space for the tank?

Thanks for all the answers everyone.
I decided to go with the feet because my old tank had feets as well and I never had problems with that. However, the entire re-homing of my fish ended in a desaster as described here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=46816#p314099
