L200 not eating propperly

Post by Chris helland »

So the largest L200 is not that thin and looks to be feeding probably regarding that I’ve never witnessed them eat.
But the smallest one is making me a bit worried.

The heat is 29c, the ph is 7,2 andnot that mutch lightening ether.

Bin offering sweet potato’s, broccoli, zucchini, and cucumber but the fish won’t take a bite at it.

I’ve bin tipped of that I shudd add pleco caves in for more hiding space, and less male dominance's. Will that help?
I’m also thinking about running a cure agents worms in there stumick just to be sure since they are wilds.

I’m am feeding them just before the lights go off. Some times the food is gon, and some times it’s not.

Some help would be much appreciated!

Adding some images.
The lights is strong now cus of the pictures.

This one is thin, to thin..

But there coloration is nice.

ive had both, they both ate bloodworms. but, make sure not to feed your high fins to many because it can cause bloat. when i was trying to get mine to start eating i put in half a cube for a 5 inch fish once a week and then i gave him fresh veggies and wafers daily. but with your situation the dominant fish would probably just eat the worms. because of how skinny he is, if i was you, i would quarantine him with deworming meds in a 10 gallon. then you can feed only him and see if he is eating anything at all

I have both forms of L200 and have never seen the High Fins eat worms when offered. For them, I rotate squash, dried (non-sulfered) mango slices, algae spirolina tablets, Repashy Superfoods Soilent Green Gel, Repashy Super Green, sweet potatoe slices, etc. -Barry

Quite some plecos love sweet fruits. Melons seem to be a hit among mine. Watermelon or a sweet yellow melon, both are well accepted.

Btw will test with som melons after the cure. I was old that after I’m son curing I should throw in som blueberry yogurt that is almost frozen, just so it sticks on the spoon, and if they are good to go they will throw them selves at it. Got that tips form a well known pleco lover back here in Norway

Well you freeze it to the pointe where it’s slushy sort of, and then you put in a smal portion.
My plecos did eat it, and it’s all going better now, they will only eat every second day, but there belly’s are looking good. My guess is that they are feeding on the wood or something

Haha not any 2ft worms unfortunately rofl, but there is no white threads in there waste anymore. They’re slowly gaining weight. They aren’t big eaters like I’m used to with discus where you throw the food in and it’s gon in seconds..

I can feed them 3 pellets every second day and they will finish it all. If I throw in every day there will be leftovers..
but after all they are wilds and they are not used to pellets

Som pictures of there belly now, they look worse then they are on the pictures

Realy? Only flake? That’s unusual, planing on changing food, trying som new stuff. Mine won’t tuche vegetables. It’s almost as they think it’s poison to them.. And 1 year, getting there slowly tho. I’m guessing they are wilds?

Again, making sure not to overfeed, you can also try a small amount of shrimp. I use human grade and boil it one minute, then chop it to fine pieces 3-4mm size. Don't overfeed. I find my Panaqolus ravage it, even though they are "wood eaters."

Good luck, eric

All ready tryd giving them meat, no interest for it. Don’t worry, won’t be any overfeeding in my aquarium.

If I feed them every second day they will throw them self’s at the food. So I’m just doing that for now

I would suggest to not be afraid of overfeeding. While I was getting my corydoras in spawning condition I 'overfed' quite a bit. This is when I noticed my l121 getting more active and eating more. Now I feed them much more and they eat much more too. They are even growing slightly even though I had them for 2 years. You could say I fed them too little before, but they often left food uneaten.

As long as you're doing regular (or more) water changes I think overfeeding for a short while isnt bad.

I would refrain from feeding loricariids only every second day as well.
Especially with Baryancistrus.
Feed less but more often. These fish would eat all day in their natural habitats. Having veggies and fruits in the tank for most of the time as a supplement would be a good choice in my eyes.

No point throwing in veggies when they ain’t eating it, just creating unnecessary nitrate, and so is over feeding them. If the food lays for 1 day I get nitrate all suddenly. Something new that started happening a couple of weeks ago.
Have to be real careful with the food all sudden..

And if I put in the food in the morning it won’t be touched before the lights go off. So feeding them often will allso just give me
problems. Giving them 3 and 3 pellets every day now, but not sure if the snails eats the pellets now or the fish.. Getting clown lotches today, damn snails are going down! Might do a change on the setup to, they are allwasys hiding in the back. So I will try to stock it so they can’t hide behind everything. Don’t feel like I got control on them at all..

Doing 1-2 water changes every week, depending on the feeding, and the nitrate indicator. As mentioned, leftovers makes my nitrate go skyrocketing for mars or something
