It has been a while, but after a few days of flash lighting a cave where I just "knew" there had to be a spawn, I finally was able to confirm it today. The dad is one of my original spawning males and he is a seasoned pro at hiding eggs, wigglers and even free swimming fry before he lets or boots them out. But the fry, when they get free swimming, have their own ideas and one managed to swim out under dads block and I saw it.
I have had fish of some kind spawning in tanks almost since day one in the hobby. I was very lucky in this respect. And what I love about this hobby was that spotting that fry today tickled me as much as when I spotted the first swordtail and panda cory fry in my first tank almost 18 years ago.
Getting new fry always makes me smile. I think this is what I will miss the most as I wind down to a single community tank.
